Mr. Julius Kapwepwe, Research and Policy Analyst at the Parish Development Model (PDM) Secretariat, today represented the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ben Kumumanya, at the opening of a two-day stakeholders’ workshop at Bomah Hotel in Gulu City.

The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Local Government’s Local Economic Development Department, has brought together Chief Administrative Officers, Production and Commercial Officers, Agricultural Extension Workers, and other key stakeholders to strengthen extension service delivery and improve the management of agro-processing facilities for the effective implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the Acholi Sub-region.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kapwepwe underscored the critical role of local governments and technical officers in advancing the objectives of the Parish Development Model. He noted that effective extension services, value addition, commercialization, and enterprise development are essential for increasing household incomes and driving socio-economic transformation.

“The Acholi Sub-region has enormous agricultural potential. This workshop comes at a critical time to strengthen coordination, enhance technical capacity, and build synergies among stakeholders to accelerate the successful implementation of the Parish Development Model,” he said.

The two-day engagement is expected to equip participants with practical knowledge and strategies to enhance the role of Production and Commercial Officers in supporting farmers, managing agro-processing facilities, promoting value addition, and advancing sustainable local economic development across the sub-region.

The workshop is being held under the theme: Strengthening the Role of Production and Commercial Officers in Extension Service Delivery and Management of Agro-Processing Facilities for Effective Implementation of the Parish Development Model in the Acholi Sub-region.
