The Ministry of Local Government, through the Department of Local Economic Development (LED), has successfully concluded a workshop on Strengthening Local Economic Development and Investment Committees (LEDICs) in the Karamoja Sub-Region to Catalyze Local Investment for Job Creation and Revenue Growth, bringing together key stakeholders from across the region to discuss strategies for accelerating local economic transformation.
The workshop featured presentations from participants who shared key outcomes and recommendations from breakout group discussions, highlighting practical approaches to strengthening local investment coordination, promoting entrepreneurship, creating employment opportunities, and enhancing local revenue generation within the Karamoja Sub-Region.
Participants also benefited from insightful presentations by various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and partner institutions, including Pearl Bank, the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), and the Microfinance Support Centre. These institutions provided valuable information on access to finance, business registration, taxation, and investment support services available to local enterprises and communities.
In his closing remarks, Commissioner Anthony Namara applauded participants for their active engagement, dedication, and patience throughout the workshop, noting that their commitment reflected a shared determination to improve livelihoods and promote sustainable economic growth across the Karamoja Sub-Region.
He subsequently invited the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Moroto District to officially close the workshop.
The workshop concluded on a high note, with participants commending the interactive discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and practical solutions aimed at advancing Local Economic Development (LED). The engagement reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among government institutions, development partners, and the private sector in unlocking investment opportunities, creating jobs, and fostering inclusive economic growth in the Karamoja Sub-Region.
