The Honourable Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, today commissioned a brand-new motor grader valued at UGX 1.2 billion, fully funded through locally generated revenue.

The Minister highlighted that the grader belongs to the people and must be protected, properly maintained, and used responsibly for the benefit of all.

He further noted that the Government plans to provide road equipment to all cities to improve access and enhance service delivery.

In the 2024/2025 financial year, Arua City collected UGX 6.7 billion and is projecting UGX 7.5 billion in FY 2025/2026. With this acquisition, Arua City joins other cities and municipalities, including Lira, Mbale, Mbarara, Nansana, Makindye, and Kira, that have procured road equipment using local revenue.

According to the City Clerk, Mr. Kyasanku David, this grader marks a significant milestone for Arua City, which manages over 550 km of road network. Previously, the city relied on borrowing graders from Obongi and neighboring districts, while hiring a grader cost UGX 1.5 million per day which was unsustainable.

Mr. David added that the new grader will enable the city to open more roads leading to schools, hospitals, and markets, which will improve access, connectivity, and service delivery across Arua City.

The commissioning that was held at the City headquarters was attended by the Ministry of Local Government Staff under the Uraban Administration Department , District technical , political Staff , private sector and the Community.
